Former Israeli PM "fighting for his life"
The head of the Israeli hospital treating Ariel Sharon says he is not optimistic in his prognosis, despite doctors stabilising some of Sharon's bodily functions. But the doctor says the former prime minister continues to fight for his life.
"During the last 48 hours, since we last updated the world about his condition, there have been some stabilisation in part of the vital signs of Ariel Sharon, like the heart rate and the blood pressure. Unfortunately this is not the case with the other organs of Ariel Sharon, which continue to show slow deterioration in their function. What I can update you right now that our Arik Sharon, which in English is ’a lion’, is fighting like a lion for his life," said professor Zeev Rotstein, director of Chaim Sheba Medical Centre.
