In Beijing, we are already a few hours into 2016. Earlier this morning, despite freezing temperatures, thousands of people gathered at the capital's iconic Tiananmen Square to watch this year's first flag raising ceremony, many travelling thousands of miles from elsewhere in China.
The ceremony has been a daily routine since 1980s. But there's always something about the year's first. Many believe it symbolizes hope, and a fresh start.
