A court in Thailand has found Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra guilty of violating the constitution and has asked her to step down. On Wednesday, Yingluck met with supporters and during a televised news conference, she said her government has never done anything dishonest.
Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra talks to media during a press conference in Bangkok, Thailand Wednesday, May 7, 2014.
"I insisted that we have used honesty to administer the country and we have never done anything that conveys any dishonest actions like we are being accused." Yingluck said.
The court said Yingluck had abused her position by transferring a security chief to another post in 2011, which allegedly benefited her and her party. After the ruling, the cabinet said the country’s Commerce Minister Niwa-tthamrong Boon-song-phaisan would replace Yingluck, and that the caretaker government would press ahead with plans for a July 20 election. On Wednesday, Niwa-tthamrong laid out the main duties of the caretaker government, including making sure that the election of a new government happens as soon as possible.
