CCTV9英语新闻:中国新常态下的中英贸易
The China Britain Business Council – a UK’s leading proponent for Sino-Anglo trade with China – has welcomed the latest projections for Chinese economic growth, saying it offers ‘enormous possibilities’ for British businesses. The growth targets of between 6.5% and 7% have been set out in China’s latest five year plan.
Among these 500 British business leaders it’s accepted China’s economy is entering the age of a so called ‘New Normal.’ Growth in China moderating, but even at lower levels growth alone represents the size of Turkey’s entire economy.
Britain’s trade deficit with China remains huge, around $30 billion dollars according to official figures. Last year for the first time though more than 50% of the Chinese economy was in services, offering opportunities for British companies, according to observers.
The state visit to the UK of Chinese president Xi Jinping was the highlight of Sino Anglo trade last year with $60 million dollars in deals announced. Some though see this year as the start of a new Golden Era in UK-China trade.
With the so-called New normal and the possibility of the UK leaving the European Union after a referendum later this year, there are doubts hanging over Sino-Anglo trade. The message from this conference though is that there’s still money to be made on both sides.
