Myanmar's Parliament votes today for the country's next president from three candidates. Htin Kyaw has the advantage. His party, the National League for Democracy, or NLD, won a landslide victory last year, ensuring a majority in the upper and lower houses. Htin Kyaw was appointed by his close friend Aung San Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi herself is banned from running, but she has vowed to rule "above" the next leader. The other two candidates are Henry Van Htee Yu from the NLD and retired army general Myint Swe, the military's pick. The one with the most votes will become president, and the other two, vice presidents. All three will be sworn in at the Parliament on March 30th.
