Musharraf says all cases concocted, expects justice from court
The former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf goes on trial for treason on Wednesday. He addressed a gathering of retired senior military officers in Islamabad via video link, saying all cases against him are "concocted, but he is certain the court will deliver justice."
Musharraf said the cases against him were part of a politically-motivated vendetta. He also said the cases could not dissuade him from coming back to his homeland. He added that he is confident the courts will be fair with him, as he had done nothing wrong and that he had consulted people in all major decisions.
The former military ruler returned to Pakistan last year, hoping to run in elections. instead he was barred from standing in them and enmeshed in a web of legal cases.
