The western Pakistani city of Peshawar is one of the worst-hit areas of the country. Most of the injured, suffering with fractures and bruises, are being sent to the largest public hospital in the region.
Locals fear the earthquake may now cause massive landslides following recent heavy rains in the mountainous area. The country's prime minister, Nawaz Sharif has ordered two thousand tents to be erected, and the military has dispatched helicopters to the scene.
"So far, our hospital has received 167 injured people and three victim bodies. If a sudden event occurs, this hospital will activate its emergency protocol. Currently, the equipment and staff are capable of tending to all the injured from the quake," Hospital official Subbani said.
"Rescue work in the Peshawar city area is mostly finished. In remote mountain areas, however, rescue work is going slowly and facing many difficulties. The injured coming in this late in the evening are mostly from mountainous areas," local reporter Qaiser Malik said.
