Syrian Arab Red Crescent confirmed that around 100 trucks carrying much-needed food and medicine entered five besieged areas in Syria Wednesday.
Three of the areas are being controlled by Syria government forces, while the other two are controlled by rebels. Dozens of death from starvation have been reported in most of the five areas.
The United Nations believes that hundreds of thousands of people are trapped by fighting and deliberate blockades by Syria’s various warring sides. It is estimated that 18 Syrian communities are under siege, affecting about half a million people.
The Syrian government is allowing humanitarian aid into previously inaccessible areas following an agreement reached among world powers in Munich last week.
