Besides being an endangered species, the giant panda is a living treasure of China and the entire world. Recent on-line ads for a caretaker for the giant pandas in the southwestern province of Sichuan have generated over 100,000 applications.

They are cute and sometimes a lot of fun. Have you ever thought of taking care of them for a year?

These applicants are certainly keen on doing so. Some say this is the most fun job in China.

The annual pay --200,000 yuan, or about 33,000 US dollars -- has certainly exerted a tremendous pull on these young people just out of college. There’s also an SUV for transport, room, and board. And in the end, only one person will get the package.

The registration just takes few steps to complete. All you need to do - is log on to this website - "fun.sohu.com", write a paragraph about yourself, upload a profile picture, and then wait for the judges to decide if you are qualified for an interview. While you are waiting, you can get started on some homework: the first question for you is - what does the giant panda like to eat?

Bamboo isn’t the only thing; daily snacks also include steamed corn bread and apples.

Organizers say this event is to focus people’s attention on giant panda conservation work.

The current volunteers are mostly from Japan, Europe and the United States. The center would like more young Chinese to be involved in the health and well-being of the country’s favorite black and white team.
