An aid convoy delivering humanitarian supplies to the Old City of Homs in Syria has left safely after it was fired upon by unidentified gunmen.
The UN and Syrian Arab Red Crescent convoy had come under fire in a besieged rebel district of Homs on Saturday morning. The convoy was delivering medicine and food to around two thousand-five-hundred trapped people.
The Syrian Arab Red Crescent said mortar fire landed close to its convoy and shots were fired at its trucks. Syrian state media said four Red Crescent workers were wounded and authorities blamed the attack on rebels.
Opposition activists accused president Bashar al-Assad’s forces of staging the attack, as well as earlier mortar fire which delayed the start of the operation.
