CCTV9英语新闻:室内世锦赛董斌三级跳远夺冠
China's Dong Bin broke the Asian triple jump record with a leap of 17.41m in the PRC's National Championships earlier this year, and was looking confident that he could repeat on the global stage. But to do so he would have to overcome major pressure, as a gold medal here would mean a major breakthrough for the PRC.
PORTLAND, March 20, 2016 (Xinhua) -- Dong Bin of China celebrates after winning the Men's Triple Jump Final during the day three of the IAAF World Indoor Championships at Oregon Convention center in Portland, Oregon, the United States, on March 19, 2016. Dong would calm some of his nerves with a strong first jump measuring 17.18 meters, and he would improve on that with his third attempt to record 17.29 meters. Here he is taking off on his fifth jump, and you can tell by his reaction that it's a good one.
Here he is again. It's a clean take-off with no problems, and Dong puts down a great leap of 17.33 meters. That would be good enough to capture the gold medal, the first time a Chinese athlete has ever won a triple jump event at a world level. It is also the country's third gold in any event on the indoor world stage, after Sui Xinmei's won the women's shot put in 1991, and Liu Xiang dominated the men's 60 meter hurdles in 2008.
