台风“妮妲”致使22,000多人被紧急疏散

台风“妮妲”周二凌晨登陆深圳，给中国南部广东省带来了28亿余元的直接经济损失。

In south China’s Guangdong province, Typhoon Nida has caused direct economic losses of more than 280 million yuan (U.S.$43 million) since it landed in Shenzhen city Tuesday morning.

The typhoon lashed the province with gale force winds and torrential rain. Local authorities said some 22,000 people were evacuated, and nearly 50 square kilometers of crops and almost 500 houses were damaged. 

In neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, most tourist sites were closed as the typhoon swept in. Nida is expected to move west to Yunnan province on Wednesday.
