Hung said that she is fully aware of the problems that the KMT is struggling with, such as the party's core ideology and overall development strategy, which ultimately resulted in the party losing in the island's recent leadership election.
The KMT will continue to champion cross-Strait peace, the values of democracy, rule of law, honesty and justice, while fulfilling its obligations as a supervisor and counterbalance as an opposition party, according to Hung.
A by-election for the party's chair was held on March 26 after Eric Chu resigned when the party's lost the leadership election to Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party on Jan. 16.
Hung garnered 78,829 votes, or 56.16 percent of the total, to beat the other three candidates and become the party's first female leader.
