The Yellow Emperor is considered to be the founder and ancestor of Chinese civilization. He lived about 4,000 years ago. He was the mysterious leader of the strongest tribe in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. During this period, many tribes settled near the Yellow River. The tribes fought each other to obtain more arable land. The constant wars brought many hardships to the people. The Yellow Emperor decided to end this situation. He formulated a set of ethical codes and trained his army. He and his army conquered a large area of the Yellow River basin and became the leader of the tribal union.
