In this paper,it firstly analyses the development procedure and status in quo of the technology of digital video compression,then describes the all parts of MPEG4 standard,the video coding technology of the MPEG4,such as the shape coding,the motion estimation, and so on.

首先对数字视频压缩技术的发展和现状进行了详细分析,然后重点分析了MPEG4系统各组成部分,着重阐述了MPEG4标准中视频部分的形状编码技术、运动估计与预测等编码技术,最后展望了MPEG4的应用前景。
