Chinese people's spending on outbound tourism last year swelled to 102 billion dollars, an increase of 40% compared with 2011. In a statement published on its website, the World Tourism organization said that this increase allowed China to rapidly surpass Germany and the United States, which were previously the top two countries in outbound tourism spending. In 2012, both Germany and the United States spent about 84 billion dollars on outbound tourism, an increase of 6% year-on-year.
