Libyan militants have announced the suspension of the parliament after they assaulted lawmakers. The announcement was made by Colonel Mukhtar Fernana on Sunday night, on behalf of assailants loyal to a retired general.
He said the country’s constitutional assembly should take over the parliament. Fernana said the government of acting Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni would serve as care-taker cabinet until new general elections are held. He said Sunday’s attack on parliament was not a coup, but "a correct way following the revolutionary spirit". Fernana said Libya can’t be a hotbed for terrorism.
