Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has warned any ground operation in Syria would lead to "a full-scale, long war". He said this during an interview with Euronews TV station, while commenting on US Secretary of state John Kerry's remarks. Earlier, Kerry said if the Syria peace plan fails, more foreign troops could enter the conflict.
"If he wants to get a long war, then one can start ground operations. But there's no need to scare anybody - we need to negotiate, like they did with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov - and not talk about something going wrong, or talking about a ground operation with other Arab countries," Medvedev said.
"I have answered this question and I can repeat once again: nobody wants a new war; a ground operation is a full-scale, long war; this has to be taken into consideration."
